Misston Work In Cuina.—A very interest- ing entertainment was given in the basement of the First Methodist Cnurch last evening, by the young ladies of the Wesley Mission Band. ‘‘China” was the subject, and it was made more than usually interesting by the introduction of a ol-verly-drawn map the work of Miss i):isy McPherson. This map showed the princip om sion stations in China, more particu:«ciy those in which the Band was interesti. <A gooideal of infor- mition was given duviug the evening in reference to the manners and customs of the people of China and the progress of miesion ary work in that country. Appropriate vocal and instrumental music was furnished during the evening.
Recaprcrep —This forenoon, a posse of eix p»licemen visited the residence ot Henry McEwen, alias Jackson, on the Ma'peque Road, near Euston Street, and arrested Mc- Ewen, who, it will be remembered broke jail last September while awaiting trial in the Supreme Court for larceny. wo of the six policemen went into the cellar of McEwen’s house and the remaining four guarded the front and back doors—two ateach. When McEwen became aware of the presence of the officers, he made a break for the cel ar with the intention of getting up through the hatchway into the other tenement and escaping in that way. But the ctticers in the cellar headed him off, and he was forced to return. Inseme way he got out the back way into the yard, where he was tackied by the officers and taken in charge after a good deal of trouble. Tue Marxets.—The market to-day was largely attended—in fact, the largest we have had for some time past. Business throughovt the day continued brisk, with moderately low pricee Hay was in in enormous quantities. Mr. Seller, at the scales, remarked that he expected there would be somewhere ahout 300 loads weighed before the day was over. The pice was low—40 to 45 cents per 10) pounds. Straw in good s-pply at from *1 59 to $2 per load. Work was moving slowly with no change in price. Luside, butter was compara- tively scarce, and sold quickly at 23 to 24 cents per pound for fresh, and 19 to 29 cents per pound for tub lots. In eggs the market waa glatted, but they sold off fairly well at 13 to 14 cents per dozen. Fowl brought from 50 to 55 cents per pair, and were scarce at that price. Trout were sold at 20 to 25 cents per atring, and North Side amelta at 10 eta, to 12 eents per string of two dvzen. In flour, cat- meal, etc., there is no change in prices
