CONCERT AT WHEATLEY RIVER.

The Wheatley River Church choir gave an entertainment coneisting of a concert and social on tue evening of the 7th inst., The excellence of Wheatley River con- certs is beyond question and this one was no exception to tne rule, for everything was up to the standard, and we can un~ hesitatingly say that the choir has added another successful entertainment to the number already given in this place. The roads were not in a condition as favorable as would be desired tor such an event, yet the ball was filled with an appre-

ciative audience as evidenced by the hearty applause accorded the performers as each number on the

programme was rendered. Mr. Jobn Rackham was chairman and excellent or- der was maintained throughout the entire evening. The programme ccnsisted of a pleasing variety both musiealjand literary. The musical part was under the direction cf Mies Louisa and Mr. Jacob Smith, which fact is certain proof of the excel- lence of that part of the programme. The solos were of high order of merit, es~ pecially Miss Smith’s, “Break the News Gently to Mother.” Mr.SSmith’s ‘‘ The Man behind the Plough,” and Mr. Sellar’s ratrict’c piece, * The Land oi the Maple.” Mise Ethel Oxenbam played ihe ac- rompaniment to Miss Smith’s einging. The dialogues were presented in a par- ticularly pleasing manner. The acting of Malcolm and Ilda xackham in “Soaring Aloft” was extremely true and gained much applauee. David and Johuuy Stevenson and William Cruwys in the

other dialogues were the funny men of the night, avd by their witticisn* and drolleries

created many a broad grin and round of applause. At the conclusion of the pro- gramme Mr. W. D. McCoubrey, of New Glasgow, auctioned the pies in bis usual happy and successful style. When the proceeds of the night were made up it was found thata handsome sum had been realized, and everyone seemed pleased with the night’s enj oyment.

After appointing a new stalf of ofncers, Mr. C. C. Dingwell being Chief Templar, Sister Dunbar read an interesting paper narrating an incident happeoiog in rural life. This was the aeveoth paper duriog the quarter. Ono motion of a prominert member, the following resolution was upanimously paseed :
