AS TO FEDERAL MATTERS.

1. That this Conference places on re- cord its strong condemnation of the double dealing wrereby the Laurier administra- tion gained power at the late elections, as well as their open violation, at even this early period of their administration, of the most solemn pre-election promises nrade by their party candidates. |

2. That this Conference strongly con- demne the terrorizing of officials, inspired by the numerous dismissals of efficient officers for political reasons, and also, the system of espionage introduced by the appointment of so-called | commission to ferret out charges against public servants with the ill-concealed pur- pose of obtaining places as rewards for} violent partisans of the administration. —

8. That ‘this conference expresses its high appreciation of the eminent services rendered by Sir Charles Tupper, Barovet, as leader of the Liberal Conservative party during the late election,and as leaierof the’present Opposition in the House of | Commons, as well as the beneficial eff-cts of his labors in behalf of the people of Canada as High Commissioner and former Minister of the Crown.

4. That in the opinion of this conference the early construction of the Selfast and Murray Harbor Railway is of paramount importance to the Province, and is highly necessary for the development of that large section of country south of the Hillsborough River, and we firmly believe that the just claims of Prince Edward Island for public works should not be bartered away for an increase in the Provincial subsidies in whieb other Provinces would participate,

or for any other equivalent, but should be devoted to Railway €x- tension in this Province as outlined in the policy announced by _ the

late Government led by Sir Charles Tup- per, whereby the sum of $250,600 was to be applied during the then current fiscal year towards the construction of the Belfast and Elmira branches, and the construction of branch lives to West Capee, Richmond Bay, New London, Crapaud and Rustico were to be proceeded with during the present Parliamentary term.

5. That this conference condemns the extravagaat administration of public affairs and the enormous inereases of debt and taxation by the Laurier Administration. —

6. That this Conference condemns and denounces in the strongest terme, the core

Mriirow Socta,.—The social at Milton on Wednesday evening was very successful. ‘The attendance wad large and the snug sum Of $50 was realized. Owing tothe bad roads the regular auctioneers were unable to be present. Bat Councillor Wheatley very kindly filled the bill, and very good prices were obtained. In the literary programme special mention must be made of the two recitations of Mr. Herbert Toombs.

St. Pavu’s Scuootroom. — Last evening the rector of St. Paui’s, Rev. T. J. Bryan, delivered a most interes‘ing illustrated lecture on Japan, to a fairly large audience. The learned Jecturer dealt with the political and social characteristics of the Japanese people, and spoke of the necessity for supplementing the good work already done in the way of spreading the Gospel of Christ among them. The collection was in aid of the mission fund.

Very Svuccessrun Soctan.— The enter- tainment and basket social held at Chioa Point in aid of the new chapel on Thurs- day evening was a decided success. After a weil rendered musical concert the main feature of the evening—a lecture by the Rev. Dr. Walker on his trip throught Ire. land was delivered in that gentleman’s able manner, and was much appreciated by the large audience. Thea came the sale of baskets, which netted a good sum, the young men showing by their brisk bidding in @ Keen competition a high appreciation of the fair sex of that section of the country. Rev. Dr. Doyle is to be congratulated upon having such a beautiful and neat little chapel for the benefit of his parishioners, aud also upon having such a very able and talented choir.
