The Cabinet met to day at noon, and remained in session until two o'clock. Gladstone laid before the' Ministers his Irish Home Rule scheme. It is reported that the discussion that followed, resulted in continuing the winisterial opposition to certain features of the Premier’s proposals. Earl Kimberly, Childers, Sir Wm Vernon Harcourt and Mandella are, it is said, as much opposed as ever to that feature which

Gladstone modifies his propoeal regarding customs control, by giving the English Parliament a right to veto all fiscal enactments of Ireland, providing an Im- perial receiver shall collect customs and excise, making Imperial claims a_ first charges on the revenues. The mal- contents consequently withhold their resig- nations. Gladstone is thoroughly supported in all his proposals by Granville. Rose- bery, the Marquis of Ripon and Mr. Camp- bell Bannerman. It is reported that Lord Salisbury has persuaded Lord Hartington to move that the House refuse to consider Glad- stone’s bill.

Before leaving Arta he requested the oflicers to in- form the men that they were destined to uphold the honor of Greece on the field of battle and would not return to their homes until that honor was satisfied. A Devastating Gale Toronto, April 6,

A terrific gale, accompanied by a heavy fall of snow, has been playing sad havoc throughout Ontario to day. In Guelph the roof of the Bell organ factory was blown off, and the engineer and fireman were serious- ly if not fatally injured. Several other employes were injured. In Toronto several buildings were damaged and a number of persons injtred. In Hamilton and all along the beach thousands of dollars worth of property were destroyed.

Destructive Flames. Napaneg, Ont., April 6. A destructive fire raged here last night and this morning. A number of business establishments and several private dwellings were destroyed. ‘Totai loss is estimated at $110,000.
