The Grand Lodge of the Ancient Order of United Workmen of the Province of Quebec and the Maritime Provinces has just concluded its seventh annual sessicn which was beld at Halifax,N S, and have honored Charlottetown by deciding to hold its next session here, Some of the Grand Lodge offices r spent Satur-

day and Sunday in Charlottetown and were delighted with its turroundings and the hospitality extended to them by our citizens, They look forward with pleas- ure to the next convention, and furtber~ more will encourage their friende to ac- company them on that Occasion. Among those who visited thecity were Dr J 7 Priganne, who was accompanied by his wite and sister, Captain G Lefebvre Grand Receiver, R Lynch of the executive committee, andJd O Huard.

At present there are no Lodges of this soci+ty in Charlotietowa, but it is the in» tention of the Grand Lodge officers to send organizers to the Island who will place its merits before our citizens with a view tv establishing several lodges here befcre 1t8 meXt Session,

The order was instituted in Meadville, Pennysivania, onthe 27th of Ociober, 1868, with a membership of thirteen, and it pas today a mem bership of four hundred aud eight thousand. It has expended upwards of one hundred millions of dol- lars in benetircaries to date; last year alone | it cisbursed eight million seven hundred thousand dollars for this great cuuee.

Saturday were a success in the matter of attendance at least. Souris village was deserted, and when the games began at two o’clock aa immense crowd of spectas tors filled the stand and grounds. On the oval inside the track «& specia stand had been erected on which were party, Premier and Mre Farquharson, A McDon- ald, Esq ,of Dalvey, Co’. Orr and others. The grand stand across the track, without

covering of any descr iptiun and wth the broiling €un fairy scorching the occupanta was filled to cverflowing, while on the Oval—and even on the track—a_ large number, who could not gain admission to the stand, took up positiuns. The track was not one that would delight an athlete’s heart, and there 's one thing of waich Souris cannot boast—its athletic grounds. Bzlow is a summary of the eveots:

SEVERAL HOUSES STUCK AND BARNS DESTROYED.

Two Women Rendered Uncorscious

at Souris.

A severe siorm of thunder and light ning, accumpanied by a heavy down-pour of rain passed over this province last even- ing. There was no damage by the light- ning in thecity that we have heard of, bui the rain got into several cellars.

A house on the Cirdigan Road, owned by aman named Daniel McLeao, was struck by the electric current and burned down.

Th+ house ot Dr. McLellan, at Souris, was also etruck, and tadly damaged about the roof. The ‘servant girl was rendered insentible and remained in that condition until early this morning,

Mrs. Pyke’s house at Souris also suffer~ ed, the lightning entering through the roof and passing down through the parlor. Mrs. Pyke was etruck and rendered ins sensible for quite a while, , Poeday she is reported “ all right again.’

Two barnes east ot se were struck by the lightning and destroyed.

The electrical storm which passed over this province yesterday evening was un#= ususlly heavy at Kingston. A large barn belonging to Mr Robert Willis, in which was stored 25 tons of hay and almost all the farming implements, was struck ‘by lightning and ina short time was reduced to ashes. ‘There is some insurance: Had it not been for the promptitude with which the neighbors rushed to the scene of the fire, all of the buildings would have been burned. Mr, Wiliis wi-ne- t ex- tend his gratitude toall who assisted in preventing the spreadof the fire to the adjoining buildings.

The Whelan Demonstration on the grounds of the Charlottetown A oateur Athletic Association to-day is largely at- tended. Besides a great number from C rarlottetown, other sections of the Pro- vince are well represented. ll classes and creeds are unifing to do ponor to the man who has doce much forthe Island province,

Besides the two Irish Societies of Cha» lottetown the Emerald Brarch of the Beuevolent Irish Socie y and the Caledon~ ian Club of Charlotietewn participated in the procession which took place thie fore- noon, and a splendid appearance was pre- sented.

There were several bands of music and pipers in the procession, which went over the route outlined in Saiurday’s paper.
