Mayor Dawson exp! ained the object for which the meet ing was called, and e xpressed his pleas ure at meeting the members of the Board in council.

The first event on the racing pro- gramme was contested by Beer, Lea (of Crapand) and Chappelle. The distance

was one mile. Beer won by about three- quarters of a lap in 4.25. Lee and Chap- pelle both fell during the race and Jost ground in consequence.

The skaters in the one-mile profes sional race were Howatt and Hogan, of Charlottetown, and Moore, of Crapaud.

Howatt took the lead at the start, with Hozan second and Moore third. Moore soon passed Hogan, but failed to over-

Before the United States Senate agrees to the Behring Sea Convention, it seems likely that an amendment will be made, regarding possible claims against Canada and Great Britain to be considered, as well as the British claims agaiust the United States. This will cause such delay as wi!l be necessary to secure the consent of the principals to the change. What clarms the Americans can have is a mystery; but if this amendment be accepted, we may be sure that some will be found to take shape and form.
