THis case may be regarded as settled— for the present. The House of Commons will not vermit the Atheist either to make an oath in the potency of which he does pot helieve or.to make sn whrmation which is not previded for by the law. Brad- laugh cannot, therefore, take his seat ; and yet he is not declared to be unseated. The position is somewhat awkward.

P., writes: ‘The Church is so entirely one in England and Wales that I do not think it likely that Parliament will abolish it in Wales before it is ready to disestab- lish it in England ; but this is no reason why Welsh people should not bring before the country their views and their condition as regards the destruction of the State Church.”

Now, Mr. Editor, I have no connection with ‘* Kair Dealer,” I do net know whe he is, nor what grounds he has for the charges he makes ; but I think that I am safe in stating that nething can be more baseless than the Collector’s assump- tions in this matter, and that instead of futilely endeavoring to pour out the Vials of his wrath upon ‘ Fair Dealer's” devoted head, he should feel grateful to him for supplying a cue which may lead to a big “ine;
it is evident that Mr. Currie has an ob- liging disposition which will be of some
service to him in his new duties. Hear him: ‘**Pair Dealer’ has made six grand
charges against ‘some ports in this Pre- vince,’ which in justice to myself and the otiicers connected with the Customs, I will net allow to go unchallenged, provided he publishes his real name and the ‘ Ports in this Province’ where the ‘Egg Case Fraud’ he alludes to is being carried on, and ans- wers the six following questions based on the subject matter of his letter :-—
Really such suavity is refreshing, such con- descension charming! Mr, Currie then goes on, ‘‘ as he himself hath said it,” te propound six questions, but which must rather be looked upon as making six de- mands. What the result will be, when the six questions ave fully answered and other details strictly complied with, the publie are left to imagine, but we suppose seme person or some thing will be “ challenged,”

In concluding his letter, ‘‘ Fair Dealer” plainly said : .
‘*] have refrained thus far from either naming any particular locality where such fraud is carried on, or even hinting “at the names of the parties concerned. But, never- theless, if more positive evidence is required to substantiate what I. have written, I am ready and willing te come to the front.”
This, I take it, is all that Mr. Currie should require as a starting point; and were he disposed to arrive at the truth of the matter, instead ef rushing into print, thus giving the matter netoriety and al- lowing the offender time to cover up his tracks, his proper course would have been to have waited upon you, when yeu, Mr, Editor, would doubtless have given him such information as to enable him to tell where next to direct his inquiries.
There are many other peints contained in this specimen of the Collector’s scholastic attainments, which might be commented upon did time permit, but I imagine that ‘Fair Dealer” will not require any assist- ance, and will be able would fully ansver the Collector, and, therefore, | simply re- mark upon the letter as it strikes a
