There’s no room for two restaurant reviewers

Are you so bereft of ideas that you must resort to aping my bread and butter, as it were? I will not be so obtuse

difference. Please acknowledge the ripoff and admit that

this campus is only big enough for one gourmand. Should you not, we can only settle this one way: —

Post, Semantic reader miffed by ‘putz’ St.Jean’s latest critique

The Editor:

I was pleasantly surprised the other day when on a break for a class I stopped by the Student Union build- ing and found the latest edition of the Semantic, in my opinion always a good read. I was however miffed by what I found on the second to last page, Craig St-Jean’s latest install- ment of “What Craig St-Jean is Eat- ing.”

Craig opened his article by taking a jab at Panther Post contributor and rival food critic Paige Matthie.

I know Paige Matthie well, and know that aside from holding the position of Residence Academic Ad- visor, a role that involves arranging academic assistance for all students living in residence, and aside from being a full time student applying for grad school, she gets her kicks reviewing local restaurants for the benefit of informing the UPEI student body what is good, and what is af- fordable.

It really irked me when St-Jean felt the need to imply that Matthie was nothing more than a mere impostor.

Now I know Paige is way to classy to ever let a putz like St-Jean rattle her but I took it upon myself to make

note and comment on St-Jean’s ar- rogance.

St-Jean clearly takes himself way too seriously, anybody that appears on the second to last page of a paper that is printed on discounted Future Shop printer and distributed on a bench shouldn’t be mocking other writers.

I don’t want to knock the Semantic because as I mentioned I enjoy the paper and I think it is great for UPEI students to have multiple points of view and varying opinions but let’s be

rank in the realm of print papers one wrong above the Coffee News and just slightly below the Summerside Journal Pioneer. coe

I don’t get why a guy that reviews deep-fried pizzas would feel threat- ened by a writer that reviews smoked Atlantic salmon.

Both writers are clearly targeting completely different audiences but to be frank neither is having the slightest impact on my palette.

I think it is great that both these writ- ers think it is so important to report on the diverse eateries that Char- lottetown offers, especially to those students like myself that are not from the Island and may be unaware of the

culinary hotbed that we live in. This article has the feel of an old western movie showdown, where

two rival cowboys square off and one

grumbles that “This town ain’t big

enough for the both of us”, but truth be told there is plenty of room for two

food critics to tell us what to eat.

Now that I have settled that, I am off to the Wanda Wyatt Cafeteria to enjoy

cold eggs, stale bacon, and lifeless coffee.
