March 19 issue of the Panther Prints.

The article in question was my personal opinion and was not in- tended to misinform readers. | would like to apologise for misquot- ing Craig Blair. The quote “if no- body else comes forward” should have been quoted in context. I would also like to apologise for the sourcing of the material used in this article.

I have remained silent since my

- resignation as manager from CIMN in

January of this year. I made the decision to resign after realizing that my employ- ers (the Student Union Executive) had no confidence in my position and no respect for the past or present volun- teers, employees and students with a vested interest in the radio station. At the time there was little I could do to change the situation which was doomed to worsen. Perhaps now my protests will havea greater impact.

In January, the Student Union Executive foreclosed all processes towards going FM and halted the order on FM equipment to which $10,000 was allocated, an action which foreshadowed the recent turn of events. This decision was made without my consultation and

despite my written and verbal requests to’

meet and discuss their concerns. I considered myself to be well versed in the CIMN situation, however, my employers did not share the same view. That is why I resigned. At the UPEI Council meeting last Sunday, March 24, Councilors voted to cut the CIMN budget completely for the 1996-97 school year. The actions and decisions of our elected student representatives left me shocked. They showed disregard for the outcry of support for CIMN made

by volunteers and students. Their refusal to negotiate proposals suggested in the "red book" was unjustified. The intent to have a closed meeting and a secret ballot was undemocratic. The Councilors have caused a scandal which is a disgrace to the University. The decision to cut funding to CIMN was obviously not in the long-term interests of the students, so I am left to wonder, who interests was it for?

It saddens me to think that the

- Student Council, representing the

University and the student body, feel so superficially about complex problems. Their narrow-minded views and insensi- tivity is appalling. I believe that respect, communication, and cooperation are

skills required when dealing with people

at any level in society -- this has not been my experience with the UPEI Student Union. The members of the Student Council have failed to live up to my expectations as a student of UPEI and as a supporter of CIMN. They have made hasty decisions based on personal prejudices and ignorance. These are not the kind of people that I want to have in my future governments or as my future employers. Doyou? >

I would like to see the people responsible for this anti-CIMN decision held accountable.
