I, Samven P. Townsenn, of the City of New York, do make affidavit that

“Tam no relative of old Jacob Towns- hend—am not, nor havel ever been, in any way connected with him in business. | [ have known him only as a Street Pedlar! of Maps and Cheap Publications, until about two years since, when he was hired by some unprincipled men to lend the, fraudulent use of his name to confuse and distract the public mind, that they might pirate the property which I pos- sessed in the Reputation of Townsend's Sarsaparilla, which had cost me thou- sands and tens of thousands of dollars.

“In a suit which I brought against this Jacob Townsend and Thompson, Skilman & Co., the firm by which he was employed, the so styled old Doctor recently made affidavit that he had no interest whatever in the Sarsaparilla to which his name is affixed, and asks the court to let him off on that ground.

“Furthermore, I am the sole author and discoverer and tne original proprietor of the medicine known as‘ Dr Townsend’s Sarsaparilla.’ [have never offered old Jacob Townsend a penny for his recipe, but was engaged in manufacturing the Compound Extract of Sarsaparrilla for nearly eight years before he or any one else, taking advantage of the great popu- kerity of this medicine, undertook to counterfeit either the article or the name.”

I was induced totry 5S. P. ‘Townsend’s Sarsaparilla, that you are agent for, by seeing it advertised, and after using two bottles found immediate relief, and am now able to attend to my work as usual, I sincerely believe it has been the means of restoring me. I have also been afflicted with the Piles for the last seven years, and when I began using your valuable Sarsaparilla to mv astonish- ment I was cured. JOHN BRENNAN, Cooper. Thus the laws of nature are made to accomplish results, as surprising as they are useful, by rendering wooden fabricks as durable as Brick or Stone, and less impervious to moisture, and consequently prevent- ing decay and destruction from corroding influences hitherto supposed unattainable.

The principal ingredients are Alumina, Silica and the Oxides of Iron, The ad- hesive quality of the latter, not only binds but attracks the particles together; but the substance covered also. The longer exposed to the weather the more power- ful the attraction, and consequently the harder the Slate. As various shades of colour are obtained, Brick Buildings may be made impervious to moisture and the fashionable colours of either Free Stone or Granite. The oil must be evaporated by the action of the weather before it is Fire proof, which will take from nine to twelve months,

The Meratuic PAINTS, Purple and Red, are offered as Weather and Water proof solely. Their base being Iron, se- cures them from Galvanic action, so fatal to lead and other Paints on Iron work— and their chemical combination makes it impossible that any change should take place from atmospheric influence or the action of Salt Water and Sulphurated hydrogen, so prevalent in Sea Ports and tidal Harbours.
