THE PINEAU MATTER.

Animated Discussion in the Senate.

There was an animated discussion in the Senate on the 22od inst resoectiag the Paris Exhibition appointment. Mr. Ferguson asked if Mr. Pineau, niember- elect for the Prince Ejward Island Legis~ lature, had, with others, received any appointment, but in answering Mr, Mille overlooked this question.

Mr. Ferguson said he had good reasen to know that Mr Pineau had been appoint- ed, and had been spirited away out of the country in order to affect the standing of the Provincial Legislature. He had been elected and approached, and now appoint- ed to Paris to be got out of the way.

Sir McKenzie Bowell said the charge made by Mr. Ferguson was a very serious one.

Mr, Mills said 't would be well to as- certain the facts before judging.

Sir McKenzie Bowell said Mr. Ferguson had stated that this was so.

Hon. David Mills said Mr. Ferguson evidently intended to make a charge ; let him dose. He had not done so, but had puta question upon a subject which he all about. Persenally, he knew nething about the matter. Ho kad applied to the Minister of Agriculture, who bad supplied the information given. If as charged, they were trafficking in offices, the charge ought to be made, and Sir Mackenzie should not sixulk bebiad a question put by Mr. Fergusor.
