OTTAWA, April i6 -(CP;—-Gal- lant deeds and good service on land, sea and the air loomed ili the background as 69 men and women stepped before the Earl of Athlone today to receive decorations a- warded to themselves oo- their kitn-iolk in the second" investiture oi decorations held at Government House since the start of the second Great War.

The stately ceremony took place ln the ball-room and the Governor- General wore khaki service unl- iorrrl. while Princess Alice. who sat at his side. was dressed in the blue outfit of the Women's Royal Can- adian Naval Service.

The persons decorated ranged in rank from private to a. vice-admir- al and the decorations from the British Empire Medal to Compen- ion of the Most Honorable Order of the Beth.

Practically all were announced in the New Year's Honors List, and tomorrow another group of persons will appear to receive honors of the same range.

Prime Minister MaoKenzle King and state Secretary Mcberty were the Ministers attending the Gover- nor-General for the ceremony. Out- of-town recipients oi honors were guests of the Government for the occasion with their wives or other close relatives, a/nd came to Otta- wa with their expenses paid.

Lt.- Col. L. T. Ibwther of Chur- lottefown was also one of the members of the Army scheduled to receive the Officer of the Order of up. British Empire. It. ls probable that he will receive this award at tomorrow's liivestitilre. Col. Low- ther and his wife are in Ottawa at present. Following the lnvestiture they will come to Charlottetown. where they will remain for a few days. Col. Lowther was Principal of Prince Street School prior to the war and was about a year and a half overseas with General Mac- Nsughtorfs staff as a member of the first division.
