Re— corded directly after the release of "Houses Of The Holy", the two record set maintains a great level of power and energy, falter— ing only on "Rain Song" and the title cut. The versions of "Dazed and Confused" (26 minutes) and "Stairway To Heaven" are better than the studio ones, longer and well developed. The band rocks full tilt on such stand- ards as "Whole Lotta Love"

Poor Ringo. Great

guest appearances. Ma— terial from excellent ariters. An album that promises a lot and delivers nothing. His guests in— clude Frampton, McCartney, and Melissa, but they add little to any of the songs they appear on. The material from Clapton, Mc- Cartney, Harrison, etc., sounds like throwaway stuff they couldn't use themselves so they dropped it on Ringo. Ringo doesn't help himr self either, throwing in a

country and western loser, a Spanish dud, and lots

of simplistic junk. This album is an out and

out loser, so beware.

(* * *) THE HOLLIES LIVE (COLUMBIA RECORDS)

Side one of this album consists of fairly new material, very little of it worth mentioning. The Hollies do a great job on Springsteen's "Sandy" though, as we well as "My'Island", written for Britain. Side two is much better, with great live versions of Classics such as "Long Cool Woman", "Carrie Anne", and "He Ain't Heavy". The sound quality is strong and consistent throughout, which is necessary above all else on a live record.

If you've liked the Hollies,

this one should satisfy you. ( * * * * *) FREE FOR ALL- TED NUGET (EPIC RECORDS) The man had a cult fol— lowing from his days with the Amboy Dukes, and his solo album of last year was one of the surprise best sellers. "Free For All" is more than satisfactory as a follow—up with songs like the title cut, "Hammerdown" and "Dog Eat Dung" keeping his mad— dog guitar playing re— putation in full swing. Nuget's rocking is some of the best of the year.

Faces calling it quits

find the "greatest hits" ) of the group. The super- ior cut of the album. Two songs from their Small Faces period are impressive, "Pineapple And Monkee"

and "Around The Plynth", but the rest is hardly worth listening to. This is

for a Faces' fan only.
