SEVEN REASONS

Why Hon. Mr. McLeod's Adminis- tration Should be Sustained by the People.

t. Justice and fair play demand that the

new Leader be given a fair trial.

2. The personal and political career of the Leader of the new Administration justify the belief that he will prove to be a care- ful and capable administrator of fublic affairs.

3. The nounced as their policy : *‘ rigorous econ- omy” and *‘ the collection of the debts due

our farming iaoterests, the wharves, and ample provision for education, roads, bridges, etc.

4. The interests of the province are more

likely to be promoted by an administration in harmony with the Federal Govern ment than by one which is opposed to it. 5. The McLeod Administration is made up of and supported by men of ability who are experienced in the conduct of public affairs.

6. Those who are opposed to the new Administration have no Leader to succeed to the Government; and if they obtained a majority in the Legislature the Govern- ment will practically fall into the hands of a ‘junto ” of ambitious lawyers, composed of the firms of Davies & Sutherland, Peters & Peters, and John H. Bell.

7. Those who are opposed to the new Administration have submitted no policy to the judgment of the electors. What more likely, then, than that they will, if they obtain a maj rity, fall back upon the policy and the methods of the Davies Gov- ernment ¢

Messrs. Haslam, the Government candidates, are steadily gaining ground in the southern end of The farmers here are coming to the conclusion that they do not want too many lawyers to represent them in the Local Legislature. And the prospects are at the present that Campbell and Haslam, representatives of the farmers, will be returned with a good majority on the 30th instant.

Johan M. Nicholson vs. the trustees of the Springton School District. This case was concluded yesterday, when a verdict was found for the plaintiff for $100 dam- ages. Theaction was brought on an agree- ment entered into between the teacher and the trustees by which the teacher agreed tu teach the Springton school for the year ending 30th June, 1889, and the trustees agreed to pay a supplemental allowance of $50 The plaintiff tauzht the school, but at the end of the year the trustees refused to pay the supplement, alleging as a reason that the district meeting at which the sup- plement was voted was illegai. This action against the trustees was then brought, not only to receive the amount of the supple- ment, bat also the additional $50 which the teacher would have received from the Government had he been paid his supple- ment. Atthe trial yesterday, before Mr. Justice Hensley, it was heid that the regu- larity of the school meeting could not be impeached before any court; and that the schoo] trustees, having entered into the agreement, and the teacher having perform. ed his part, they were bound to pay the supplement. The jury, under direction of the court, without retiring, found a verdict for the plaintiff for $100. Hodgson, Q. C., for plaintiff ; and Morson for defendant.
