The St. John Meeting. Str. Jons, Nov. 28. The Grit meeting in the Opera House last night passed off quietly. The house was comfortably filled, the audience com- prising men and women of both parties. The speakers were Davies, Longley and Fielding, and the speeches were of the kind these gentlemen usually deliver. Mr. Davies discussed the tariff, but his long address Jeft quite hazy the exact character of the tariff he propused. Before the meet- ing there was some curiosity to kaow whether the local mea, Mesare. Ellis aud Weldon or Blair would be chosen as a re- presentative of the St, John, there being a sort of rivalry. Mr, Blair, however, went to Fredericton, while neither Mr. Weldon nor Ellis were asked to speak.
