As referred to in THe Examiner a few days ago, the above Society held a ‘Tea and demonstration at County Line on the 6th inst. Last Monday evening the regular meeting was held in the Schoolhouse, and the President of the Branch, who was becretary of the Tea, handed in his report. itis gratifying to learn that over seven hundred dollars were taken asa result of the enterprise of the committee, and that over three hundred dollars of that amount stands to the benefit of the Branch.

Close on four hundred dollars are now in the hands of the Treasvrer, and the members have decided to commence at an early date the erection of a commodious Hall, for which tenders are called. It is generally understvod that the Hall will be erected right in the village, as Mr. J. H. Haslam, of the firm of Craig & Haslam, who isa member of the Branch, has pre- sented a free site.

The Bulgarian Question DISCUSSED BY THE BRITISH CABINET— THZ ELECTION OF PRINCE FERDINAND LIKELY TO CAUSE COMPLICATIONS.

It is stated that the British Cabinet, at its meeting on the 8th inst., spent three hours discussing the Bulgarian question in the aspect it has assumed since the election by the Sobranje of Prince Ferdinand. Eng- land, for various and obvious reasons, has been anxious to keep out of the Bulgarian muddle, and the election of Prince Ferdi- nand is undoubtedly an incubus, and the Government camnot refuse to aecept his election and still be consistent, while to accept it would still further complicate other questions which still remain open be- tween Great Britain and Russia. Of course, if pressed to the necessity of definitely en- dorsing the action of -the Bulgarian As- sembly, or of rejecting Prince Ferdinand’s claim to the Bulgarian rulership, England

The members desire to return their} hearty thanks tothe many strangers and} noh-members who willingly and graciously | gave their assistance in making the late} demonstration such a success—a success which, no doubt, would have been greater had not other Teas on the same date, the! disastrous tire in Charlottetown, and the! excitement caused by the frightful murder | of the unfortunate Mary Tuplin, kept many | from the County Line Tea who would have} otherwise been present. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the press, the Presi- | dent particularly mentioning THE Ex-| AMINER, which generously advanced the | interests of the Branch without cost.

As is the case in all communities, the: Brauch has been touched by sorrow in the death of one of its most earnest members, : brother Daniel Whelan, while in the bloom of youth and manhood. He was_ buried two weeks ago, and at their first opportu-, nity—the meeting of Monday—the Brauch passed a tribute to his memory, and a vote of condolence with his bereaved parents and reiations.

Complaint is made that the mills do not , take proper precautions to prevent saw- dust getting into the river. We, therefore, | trust that an efficient official will be ap-'! pointed at once, and that no more netting of trout at Alley’s mill will be allowed.

Trade at the stores continues brisk, and our merchants report larger sales than last year. The egg business shows a great in- crease, and the number of cases shipped each week is surprising.

Politics are very quiet, even the M. L. C. and his deputy at Lorne Valley have} ‘“‘nawthmg to’say.”” Some enquiry about the meeting of the Liberal Conservative Association at Georgetown on the third Tuesday of July is made, and it has been suggested that it would be a good idea to invite the Hon. Minister of Marine and Fisheries to attend.

The Duke of Saxe-Cuburg is reported to have consented to Prince Ferdinand’s as- suming the Bulgarian throne. Prince Fer- dinand has had an interview with Prince Alexander, the former ruler of Bulgaria. All the Bulgarian towns were illuminated on the night ef the &th inst., in honer of Prince Ferdinand’s election.
