road2, The meeting was called 10 orler by Donald Gillis, J. P.,as char naa, who in a few well chosen remarks explained the object of the meeting. ‘The first

speaker was Mr. Alexander Martiv, Lib eral-Conserva ive candidete for East Queens, who ably discussed the diflerent phases of the question. He showed in eloquent terms the advantaze it would b> to Ubis section of the conntrw to have a railway to Belfsst and Murrey Harbor. He concluded by expressing the well- vrounded bope that the tme is not far distant when justice would be given to these sections in raiiway matters.

Messrs. Martin, McLean and Matheson spoke in favor of it, and al] seemed to tnink it was our right to have this branch railway.

At the close of the meeting the Secre- tary read the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted :—

Whereas, The Dominion Goveri ment, for the more rapid development of the re- sources of Canada, has adopted the policy of expending large sums of money on rail- wave and canals; and

Wierea>, Those expenditures, though made in every other province fur railway

purposes, have nctto any extent been participated in by this Provance on ac- } count of its isolation and yeog)aphical

Resolved, That we tender Mr. Alexan- der Martin and others working with him, our most hearty thanks forthe reat in- terest given tor the prosecation. of this railway project in which we are so much interested, aud which we deem su uecess- ary to our inaterial progress.
