i. SUMMARY OF RESOLUTIONS PASSED Q AT I982 CNF CONFERENCE

INTERBASIN WATER TRANSFER IN ALBERTA. CNF urges the Government of Alberta to halt dam construction and convene a public inquiry into water management in the Province focussing on interbasin transfer, a concept toward which, without public knowledge, government management strategies are being directed.

WHOOPING CRANES. With the increase use by whooping cranes of

Matagorda Island, Texas, CNF urges the U.S. Government to transfer ‘ jurisdiction of its property there to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife

Service as an addition to the nearby Aransas National Wildlife

Refuge, the cranes' major wintering area.

SAGUENAY WHALES. Given the importance of the confluence of the

Saguenay and St. Lawrence Rivers to seven species of whales, CNF urges the Quebec and Canadian Governments to establish a marine

and terrestrial park, control disturbance of the whales, provide interpretive programs and viewpoint, and to conduct research.

LANCASTER SOUND. In light of the exceptional biological productivity which supports great diversity and numbers of marine mammals, birds and other life forms in Lancaster Sound, CNF urges the Canadian Government to continue the moratorium on gas and oil drilling and year-round tanker traffic in the area until a conservation strategy and a regional plan which will ensure protection of these important biological resources have been implemented.

HIBERNIA. CNF urges Mobil Oil to immediately release its environ-

mental impact statement to allow public view, and urges the Govern- ments of Canada and Newfoundland & Labrador to initiate a coastal—

zone management program to protect sensitive areas.

PESTICIDES. CNF urges the Canadian Government to make changes in . pestiCide registration procedures, place greater emphasis on alternate pest management systems and to allow the public more information and opportunity to participate in decisions regarding registration of

new pesticides.
