Flight Lieut. D. Ian MacKenzie of the R. C. A. F. attached to the Second British Army with a unit of the R. A. FE. son of Major Mac- Kenzie, of this City, has been mentioned in despatches. He was in charge of the unit escorting His Majesty around the lines on his visit to Holland. His Majesty afterwards sent for Lieut. MacKenzie and

congratulated him o_n the fine appearance of his escort. The Lieui. went into Belsen Horror Concentration Camp of which he wrote: “A person could not begin to explain the horrors of this camp. People die while you are watching them. I have seen several graves similar to the ones pictures of which have appeared in the press. It was hor- ~rib1e, I think every SS. trooper and the Gestapo should be killed; ir. fact I often think the world would be better if we exterminated the entire German race now to prevent any repetition of such bestial horrors. It is a cruel thought. but some of the sights I have seen in this camp makes me feel that way. This camp and its horrors cannot be explained. one has to see it. Then after you have seen it you wonder if what you have seen is real." There were three Canadian officers with the unit, and all were of the same opinion as Lieut. MacKsnzie regarding its horror.
