A message from a Co-President of the UPEI Biology

Club "BIO-BABBLE"

reetings and welcome returning students and osh to a new and more expensive university sar. I wish to thank everyone who helped ake the Biology Club barbecue a great suc- ss. We gave away a total of 180 hotdogs, and ave not received one complaint. At present, e have 67 members in the club and there is ill room for more. Meetings will be held on /ednesdays at 12:45 inthe biology club lounge.

In the election for Biology Club Presi- ont, there was wide spread election fraud and te tampering, withboth candidates claiming ctory. In an effort to maintain stability and event a coup d’etat by the military, the indidates decided to form a co-presidency in ‘der todemonstrate that democracy definitely innot work. Along with the 2 presidents, we so have 9 vice presidents and 57 secretary/ asurers. Currently, there is a royal commis- n investigating to see if this is constitu- nal.

The Biology Club lounge is located on le top floor of the Duffy science building, ht beside the chemical storage. Just follow overpowering smell of formaldehyde mixed with some 70% ETOH. To be on the safe e, the air quality was analyzed and there was sick building syndrome. We were assured tthe many contaminants in the lounge were ghtly lower than the recommended daily ake levels and no ill effects will occur from longed exposure.

The lounge also has an extensive refer- € library with books covering a variety of ics in biology. Including -- 101 Uses for boratory Animals, Cloning--a do it yourself ide, and I recommend everyone read a chhiker’s Guide to Biology.

Most important, the Biology Club nge is an area for quick tempers, violent dencies, split personalities, and the se- ely depressed to come and relax. Home Economics

HOME ECONOMICS is the study of one’s continuously changing environment, one’s social being, and how they interrelate. Home Ec. entails studies in Biology, Chemistry, Math- ematics, Psychology, Sociology, Management, Finance, Nutrition, as well as Design to name afew. Asa matter of fact, only 3 food prepa- ration and 0 clothing construction courses are required to achieve a (40 course) science de- gree in Home Economics. True, should one major in Clothing & Design, one is required to take Flat Pattern Design and Tailoring which do include clothing construction. We would also like you to recognize the fact that there are other areas/majors available.

Students of Home Economics will be partici- pating in an educational tour of the *‘fashion capital’’ of the world in February of the upcoming year. This will enable further insights into the clothing industry and will gratly en- hance their classroom education. Scheduled events include visiting textile and clothing sites of interest. Some of these are:

-- Metropolitan -- costume institute

-- Cooper-Howitt -- textile conservation lab -- a design show room

-- garment manufacturer

-- a theatre costume department

BUT, costs are very expensive. To offset part of the cost, the students have planned a number of fundraisers:
