Movies to see this summer

2001. I have seen the documentary numerous times and it still never ceases to impress me. “Lords of Dogtown” comes out June 3 and well, there is no doubt that it will be well received by anyone who is a fan of sports at. as Nonetheless, I think it will be a film that everyone should see if they are at all interested in the culture of today’s youth and where it has its roots.

The last film that I want to talk about is one that I am sure everyone has heard something about, and that is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The movie is by Warner Bros. Pictures and is directed by Tim Burton. Iam certain we are all familiar with at least one of Tim Burton’s films, which include “Big Fish’’(2003), “Planet of the Apes”(2001), and of course “Beetle Juice”(1988). “Charlie and the Chocolate’ Factory” is based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl which was published first in 1964 and then re-released by Puffin Books in 1988. Tim Burton’s film is a re-make ofa film that was made in the late 70’s, one that I am sure many of you have seen at one time or another. I personally have seen the movie more than five times and am currently reading the book for about the tenth time...ok, ok, so I don’t use my time that wisely, but we will all need something to do now that Myron’s will not house our antics every Saturday night anymore. The movie tells the story of a poor boy named Charlie Bucket who lives near Willy Wonka’s famous

Chocolate factory. Charlie lives with his parents and four grandparents, one of whom goes by the name of Grandpa Joe. Grandpa Joe tells Charlie great stories about the factory every night, and when a contest begins that gives a few lucky people the chance to have a tour of the factory, both Charlie and Grandpa Joe are quite excited. Of course through some bit of luck, Charlie wins a place in the tour of the factory, and the rest of the story tells about their adventure with Willy Wonka and_ his marvelous chocolate factory. The highlight of the cast is, of course Johnny Depp, who plays the famous Willy Wonka. I think that if you are familiar with the book, you will agree when I say that Johnny Depp will do a perfect job playing Willy Wonka. If you are not familiar with the book, then I am sure that you will still agree that Johnny Depp is a sensational talent and will still make the movie an enjoyable experience. Other movies that have been made from the books of Roald Dahl include “The Witches”(1990), and “James and the Giant Peach” (1996). “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” comes out July 15" and I think it will be well worth seeing, as it will bring out the kid in all of us.

Lucky There’s A Family Guy!

are several websites dedicated to the show. Last summer, some friends loaned me season one and two of the show and I couldn’t stop watching them. (Truly, I’d seen the light!) And now starting May 1*, Fox will begin running all-new episodes of The Family Guy.

It’s hard not to laugh at the antics of Griffin family. Peter (Seth MacFarlane), the dumber-than-a-bag- of-hammers patriarch, his well-meaning wife Lois (Alex Borstein), his whiny daughter Meg (the lovely Mila Kunis), her dumbass of a brother Chris (Seth Green), baby brother, Stewie, (Seth MacFarlane), who wants world domination, and Brian, the talking dog. But, who can forget Peter’s friends, Cleveland, Cop Joe Swanson and man- whore Quagmire (Quagmire walks into a lesbian bar: “Hey, any of you ladies, ever been penetrated?)? All these characters make up the wacky world that is Quahog, Rhode Island. There

are many classic episodes worth mentioning, such as when Brian became a police dog and develops an addiction to cocaine; Peter and Chris going to extreme lengths to save their favorite show, Gumble To Gumble from being cancelled; Peter replacing Meg’s story in the school paper with the headline “Luke Perry Is Gay,” and the episode where Peter becomes the Grim Reaper and has to kill the cast of Dawson's Creek! Just like The Simpsons, Family Guy is not afraid to make fun of pop-culture, but unlike The Simpsons, they haven’t grown stale (at least not yet anyway) in the writing department. What they have done is establish a show so politically incorrect that it is hard not to laugh at. So, circle the date on your calendar, May 1*, because the Griffins are returning to television!
