Amid all the comforts ofhcr new home, Amine had never forgotten him. She thought ot'hitnwhen she wandered in the lonely forest paths, or sat alone in the still evening.— That stormy evening, too, when she nestled ,closely to his bosom, and could scarcely hear his kind and

the tempest often came back to her. The image of her young and beauti- ful mother, as she recommended her to Rodovan’s protectiOu, filled a still holier place in her memory. She was the one bright angel of her dreams, and the imaginary guardian of her waking hours.
The feuds of the turbulent barons of that period, often gave employ- ment to Baron Waldberg and his re- tainers. It was after an absence of several months,that he returned with a young gentleman in his train, whom he had fallen in with on the road, and invited to share hospitalities of the castle. was very youthful, he was tall, and of a most noble presence. At trance, he removed his cap enriched with fur, and revealed a broad, open brow, shaded with hair dark as night. Eye-brows equally dark, arching a pair ofdeep-set eyes which seem even to change with the varying passions of the mind, a somewhat high but well shaped nose, a firm and handsome mouth, with a sweet expression of countenance, were, perhaps, a better letter of recommendation than any he might have carried in his pocket.— They were so, at least, to Amine. A satin vest, which was fitted exactly to- her form, and a purple, gold embroidered tunic, over which, for below her waist, fell her rich, glossy hair, liken dark veil, made her appearance in the eyes of the young stranger as beautiful as it was noveL
As all were about to sent them- selves at the well and plentifully sup- plied board, the arrival of tWo other guests was pronounced. As they drew near the door of the hall, the stranger who first arrived, whispered a few words to Home Walberg, and hurried from the room in an opposite direction.

i ‘ I shall never forget him,’ she re- ! lied. ‘ Not a day passes but i think of him.’

‘ He does not. Time and sorrow. imprisonment have wrought a great change in him, but the sweet rose he so loved has suffered but little alter- ation, except to grow more beauti- ful.’
These last words were pronounced. in a softened Voice, such as Amine knew she had heard before, and sud- denly grasping his hand in both hers, she said, ‘ You are Rudovan.’
‘ I am, and you are the Amine I used to hold in my arms ten years ago. [did not expect it. Though Amine, the child, loved me, I feared that Amine, the woman, would for- get her early and humble friend, if not scorn him.’
