A case of considerable importance, arising out of the suspension of the Bank of P. E. L, for $30,000 is to be tried before the Court of Exchequer at Ottawa next month. The Government is the plaintiff in the case, and the Bank of Montreal the defendant-

A Train Accident—Forty Lives Lost. BERLIN, Sept. 3. As a train from Berlin was passing Steglet yesterday it ran into acrowd of people who were intending to take a return to Berlin. They were pressing forward to euter the carriage on the wrong side. The number killed and wounded is estimated at forty.

The Jewish Troubles.

SLaGONNA, Sept. 3. Two thonsand peasants invaded Krakina yesterday for the purpose of attacking the Jews in that place. The mob was fired upon by the militia. One man was killed and three wounded. Fourteen peasants were arrested.

The Cholera.

ALEXANDRIA, Sept. 3. An official report shows that since the outbreak of cholera there were 27,818 deaths in Egypt. There have been 140 deaths among the British troops stationed in Egypt.

A Heavy Gale.

Shipping Disasters.

Piymovuts, Mass., Sept. 3. The schr. ‘‘Melo” of St. John, N. B., on entering the harbor this morning, struck on Brown’s Island shoal. She bilged and filled with water. The crew were taken off by the men at Gannegt Life Saving Station, - Lonpon, Sept. 3.

It is rumored that the General Trans- Atlantic Company’s steamer ‘‘Amerique’” which sailed from Havre yesterday for New York, has foundered. She passed the Lizard all right last night.

A SECOND SAXBY GALE AT CAPE BRETON.

The gale of Wednesday night was very | severe at Cape Breton. It eqnatied in fury ithe great storm of August,1873,but was of |Shorter duration avd accompanied by | thunder and lightning. The only large | Vessel at anchor here, the Camperdown was driven three miles up_the harbor. Several | small schooners received slight damage by collisions. The tide during the gale rose to the top of the wharves. A large number of , houses were stripped of their shingles and _chimneys and fences were blown down in ;every direction. The tower of the new | Catholic Church, in course of construction, | was blown down and completely destroyed, involving a loss to the contractor of about $300. One new building was moved bodily a foot from its foundation.

A number of vessels are reported ashore and two total wrecks at Cow Bay The breakwater at that place, and Archibald & Co.’s and Belloni & Co.’s wharves received considerable damage. Torrents of rain fell diusing the gale, swelling streams to an unusual extent, washing out bridges and rembankments. Telegraphic communication with outports hes been wholly suspended until Friday, on account of the pros- tration of the wires, and the pressure of business prevents getting particulars of marine disasters. One or two accidents to men on vessels at Cow Bay are reported, but no lives are lost, as far as known. Grave fears are felt for the safety of the steamer ‘‘Tunstall,” which sailed from ee for Montreal on the evening of the gale.

Suddenly at Mra. McKay’s residence, Kent street, on Sunday the 2ad inst., Allan McNaughton, only son of Don C. Matthews, aged one year.
