In the Senate yesterday there was an interesting discussion upon the expediency of establishing a Divorce,Court for Canada,

Inthe Commons yesterday, numerous petitions for labor Legislation biils were introduced, also a Sunday Observance, bill and a bill amencing the Eiections and Franchise act ; aleo a bill prohibiting for- eign labor. None of them will prubably pass.

In reply to a question Sir John Thomp- son stated that the Government had de- cided to pay the costs of deciding in the courts the constitutionality of several acts passed by the Provincial Legislatures, in- cluding the Manitoba School Act.

The Criminal Law and Codification Lill will be introduced on Mouday. Replies tromgthe Provincial law officers being un- favorable tu the abolition of grand juries, the bill will not deal with that subject.

Both Houses will adjourn this evening until Monday next.

The sudden termination of the debate on the address in answer ,to the speech from the Throne, indicates that there are serious dissensions in the Opposition ranks, as it is well-known that there was a determination to move an amendment and so test the Government's strength.

The chief Opposition whip, Trow, last evening estimated the Opposition strength at ninety-two. This estimate allows the Government a majority of thirty-one. The first vote will probably show that the ma- jority is larger. There is much disappoint- in grit circies. ‘Better things were ex- pected” expresses the feeling of the Uppo- ‘sition.
