= Every winter there are a great many young - fruit trees injured or destroyed: by mice. This can be ‘Prevented by giving the trees proper care. There are a number of ways of preventing injury from mice. Build- _ Ing paper has been found to give a cheap and effective _ protection. Sag _ . The paper is applied in the fall before the ground _ freezes. Simply wrap it around the trunk and tie at the “top and bottom with heavy twine. A little soil thrown up around the base will prevent mice from getting underneath. For full protection, the paper should ex- _ tend from the ground to the lower limbs. Remove the “paper in early spring.

Here he was always regarded as a highly respected citizen and took a keen interest in all things for the advancement of his com- munity. Possessing a pleasant disposition and a ready smile for both old and young, this won for him many friends and his death is a distinct loss to the neighbor- heed, and especially in the home where he will be sadly. missed. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father and grand- father, whom his children loved.
