Household Hints. Stair-Rails .—If the stair-rails are dingy, their appearavee may be improved by washing them with a little sweet milk; polish with a flannel cloth.

To Clean Carpets.—Dampen some Indian meal, mix salt with it, aod sprinkle over the curpet; sweep vigor- ously. Take a small-sharp-pointed stick to remove the salt and meal from cracks and corners,

A Tasty Dish. — Try this for tea some night: Pick up one teaspoonful of codfish, let it soak in while you mix two caps of cold mashed potatoes with ove pint of sweet milk, two eggs, a good-sized lump of butter and pepper and salt if necessary ; then add the codfish, mix well, and bake in a buttered pudding dish for from twenty-five mii to half an hour; serve hot. ©

Bread CakaltN iee bread-cake is made of two cups of light bread dough, one cups and a half cups of sugar, half a cup of butter, three tablespooufuls of sour milk, half a teaspoonful of soda, half a grated nutmeg, a teafpoonful of cinnamon, a cup of taisins chopped and flour dusted over them. Stir all in but the raisins, and put them in the last thing. It should rise for half an hour and then be baked in a moderate oven.
