The production of green meats, fresh from the block, in the east and west for the year ending March lst, are respectively, 595,000,000 pounds and 2,868,.000,000 pounds, indicating a decrease of 193,000,- 000 pounds compared with the proceeding year. What the entire industry amounts to is hard to comprehend, but these figures help one to realize its present proportiona and wonder at its possibilities.

SCHOOL EXAMINATION.

The semi-annual examination of the Brookvale School was held ov Friday 27th ult., in the presence of the trastees and rate-payers of the district. The ex-~ amination was made by the Rev. D. B. Reid, “Kelly’s Cross, assisted by Neil Murphy, Maurice MeDonafd and the teacher, A. C. Deighan. The examination occupied almost four hours and the pupils were thcroughbly tested in ali the branches they had studied. In Curre’s Klemers tary aod {Curries Advanced Grammar the different classea were examined from cover to cover, and their ready and correct answers showed that they bad been skilfully drilled. Iaarithmetic the fifth and sixth classes were examined from Smith and McMurchy’s text-book and ceuld notbe puzzled by any prob'em io it, and it ispleasing to note that two of these pupils are only 12 years of age. Ia fact, it is only justice to ssy, that there was not oue weak class in the school for all the pupils seemed to be equally well gro .nded is the’subjects taught.
