As the Watchdog returns to action this week he is apparently in the dog house with 'a number of individuals. Mr. Kent Walker, who has written a number of excellent articles, calls on the dog to lay off on his bite, give them a chance. Well, Mr. Walker, I quite agree and the contents to date have only riducled the Executive on its mistakes and so this week we will try not to bully too hard the Executive and those o1 its payroll. We will, however, not remain apathetic!

One of the constant complaints to/date has been the poor bar service. Mr. MacKenzie, who ran a campaign on very few promises, was overheard uttering to the Foreign Students Club , a more thorough and faster bar service . Now Neil, who has been able to pay for his college education by being employed by the Student Union each year, is behind thereight—ba'll. Granted, since our «first; comment he did go tb the Student Union Offices and see if anyone was uSingmhis desk and then upon departing was heard to say, "If the Watchdog comes down, tell him I was here". We are not satisfied with this performance to date. Has anything been done to approach the Liquor Commission on possible application for a third floor license or at least the allowance of liquor being sold downstairs to be transferred upstairs? One thing is sure, the liquor Commission is not going to give if they are not asked. Furthermore, I wonder if you have approached either Mr. Crockett, the librarian, or the Computer Science people on possible radio transmissiol into the lounge in the library? I expect a serious attempt from my paid officials to produce. That means as‘ you are Comptroller:

be there on nights of Main Events and Pubs, order liquor and beer, take inventory on alchohol pur- chases, evaluate performance of bartendersp evaluate Campus Police, closing The Barn; in effect, you-are a Manager. You receive $ 960 for superb vising The Barn, not for serving hot dogs.

No» for a closer look\at some of the other Student Union decisions and actions. We had a visit from an obnoxious business student the other day, who was Complaining about the deal the Student Union was giving its/members and clubs, Last Sumter, he was told he was going to be charged for a meeting in The Barn. Now the Student Union is attempting to screw the other various clubs cu; campus. Their latest offer is' 22.5% of the bar receipts when they sponsor events at 'Ihe Barn.

What this means is a 50-50 split on profits from tl'eBarwiththeamertairmentandpromtimbeing covered by the organization sponsoring the event. Furthermore, the mother classes are only allowed tospo'asormeMainEventayear. SotheOouncil, in effect, is saying you sponsor a few pubs to

in return is allow you to use The Barn. This, of course, discourages the various clubs and associa- tions from using The Barn, as the profit motivation is just not there. So the Engineering, Business, History and Biology Societies will opt for other methods of entertainment or be forced to raise the cost of their membership fees. Furthermore, it will mean the expensive and costly Barn will not be used and students, again, will come out on the wrong end of the stick. I

The Personnel Board under the capable hands of Holly MacDonald brought in their names for every- thing from Student Police to Student Disciplinary Committee menbers. It was hoped that the Board might bring in some new blood, but it appears there will be the same bartenders who lost 100 beer at a Pig 'N Whistle last Spring, working along with the same Campus Police, who watch bewildered as people next to them throw beer on those who stand helplessly below them. There seems to be a miscon- ception that there are only a few who can pour beer U110 at a time and if you get a job once you should have it as long as you wish to be employed.

My last and final comment is to all students, especially those receiving any type of scholarship or financial aid from the University Last week "The Dollars for Scholars" fair was held with many articles being put up for sale. Items ranging from paintings to books were for sale at ridiculously low prices, however, very few students decided to sham up. Quite often students turn to their faculty in criticism for lack of support and encouragement in all areas of university life. Saturday's fair was a success from a 'first time around' point of View, but it equally showed that student-faculty relationships are indeed a two way street.

If you weren't bitten this week, try not be, as the Watchdog is just that -- a watchdog...
