They are manifestly a colony of spleodid citizens now; with their own Clergy, doctors, merehapts, mechaa- ics, sadlora and farmers—a little colony, which, but for some mecessary publec works and the presence of an odd dema- gogue, might well be written down as en- joving the only modera Utopia of which we have any knowledge.

Those public works there is every pros-

pect they may secure shortly, as the Min- ister, with the Federal member, i; at present enjoying the beauties of the islands and making himself strong with the people in case of au appeal to their eutirages. A oreakwater should certainly be built by the Federal authorities at House Harbor, where an extensive busi- | mess is carried on, and where beats and veesels are obliged t6 seek au imperfect shelter from the gales which often sweep the bay. Such a piece of work would give the steamer 2 secure landing-place, too, and greatly facilitate freight and pas~ senger embarkation. The Quebec Government is being asked to bridge the channe! between Al! This bridge, which would vot cost cver much, would link the three important islemds together and make travel ¢xpeditioue and easy. Petty interests mav stand ia the way; but the general good should never be sacrificed to such, Or @ necessary improvement be withheld, on che excuse that-all are not of of one miad.
