The annual meeting of the Kin- kora sub-division-of the Catholic Women's League was held on May 14th with an attendance of twenty- five members.

The president .- Mrs. Hugh J. Mclver occupied the chair. The meeting opened with the League Prayer recited by the Rev. Dir- utor Father McQuuld. In the ab- sence of the secretary Mrs. Spencer Hughes read the minutes of the previous meeting. as well as the minutes of the last annual meet- ing which were approved. Corres- pondence read includrd letters from the National President-Mrs. Durocher, Red Cross. T. B. League. Miss I. Arsenault. Appreciation of the sub-division's contribution to all worthy causes was expressed in the correspondence received, as well as sympathy expressed to bereaved members.

The President in her splendid address reviewed the activities of the past year. she thanked the member for their generous co-op- eration which had made possible the success of all undertakings, She asked increased membership. and loyal co-operation for her suc- ccssor; only by sacrifice can we live up to the high standard of the League and put into effect its motto "For God and Canada." I

Reports of the convenera of committees were given, covering the work accomplished during the year.

The secretary's report was com- prehensive showing in detail the various activities of the League.

The Treasurer Mrs. Ralph Mc- Carville reported the min of 3674.- 35 raised during the year. Card parties were held in the 1103198 realizing the sum of 3480.00.

A beautiful quilt was made hi the members and lotierled pro- ceeds amounted to Sl04.00.

The Rev, director thanked the members and retiring officers for the wonderful work they had ach- ieved. and urged them to continue.

Mrs. Stephen Johnston was con- vener of nominations. assisted by Mrs. Ralph Mccarville.

OTTAWA. June 9-(OP)-Health Minister Martin announced today that his Department of National Health and Welfare has approv- ed a grant of more than 303.200 toward building costs of the New Western Memorial Hospital at Corner Brook, Nfld-.

The hospital, to be completed this fall, will have space for lffl beds, a nursery, operating and x-ray rooms. a laboratory Iffd other modern facilities. It will serve about 15.000 people in West- ern Newfoundland from White Buy to Burleo.

The president presided and opened the meeting in the usual manner. Roll call was answered by twenty members. Minutes of last meeting were read, approved and signed. The financial report was given by the treasurer.

Reports were given by the cori- vcnors of the various committees Sick committee reported having sent cards to those who were ill. School committee had no report.

It was moved and seconded that all bills be paid.

Plans are being made for the District convention to be held June 20th with regard to our shsre of the programme.

Several matters of business were brought up for discussion.

Cuirespondence was then read and discussed. The cenvuairg of the District were left until next meeting.

decide whether they'think it is worth it. But after they are married ithey should never count the cost of it again.

' They should just ussume that husbands and wives and home. um I children are like automobiles-expensive luxuries that cost you ; lot .of money and worry and aggravation of spirit, but that give you enough thrills and fun to pay for their upkeep. And, anyway, you .couldn't live without 'cm. , - Likewise, before murringe men and women should wear magnifying glasses when they look at each other, but after marriage they should wear blinders.

Before marriage a man should carefully scrutinize the character and disposition of the young woman with whom he is contemplating spending the rest of his life. He should test out her amlability. He should investigate the amount of brains in her pretty little head. lie should find out if she has a sense of humor. He should get a line on her point of view. He should ascertain whether she knows how zo cook. and whether she shles at the sight of a kitchen or adores pots and pans. He should make sure of what line of conversation she cai- rles. nnd whether she could keep him entertained for two hours at I stretch.

Same way with fl girl. Before she gets married she should find out what sort of disposition the man has with whom she is con- templating tying up. and whether he will be a little ray of sunshine in the house or a wet blanket, over it. She should get his ideas about whether he considers a wife as a partner who goes fifty-fifty with her husband. or as an unpaid domestic servant. She should know what his ideas are on the allowance question. and whether he proposes to he a fireside companion or run with his old crowd. and whether he thinks he can pick out winners on the racetrack and support the local tavern without getting the worst of it.

Before marriage a man and woman should have a good working diagram of each other's every fault and weakness. but on their wedding 0V9 they should chuck it in the fire and forget all about it. and time- after look not for blemishes in each other, but for perfecticns.

VSI-IQULD TEST FOB LOVE

Finally, before marriage a man and woman should apply every known test to their own hearts to ascertain if they are really in love, but after marriage they should cease vivisecting their own emotions.

Before marriage every man should ask himself: "Will I still love this woman when she is no longer young and pretty? Will her voice still have power to thrill me when I hear it every morning across the breakfast table. asking me to leave money for the mllkmun and not to forget the butcher's bill?"

Every girl should ask herself: "Will I still love this man when he ll fat. and bold-headed? Will my heart still do flipflops when I hear his footsteps coming home at night ten years from now, and will I still hang upon his words when he wants to know why I never lcnrn to make biscuits like his mother used to make?"

But after mart!-18c love should be taken for granted, and it is in fatal for a husband and wife to begin to count their heart throbn and analyze their feelings toward each other as it is for an in- dividual to begin to explore his system for symptoms of disease.

. There is a time for everything. And the time for doubts rmni misgivings and counting the cost of matrimony should come before marriage. not afterward.
