PROVINCIAL PARKS - A PLACE FOR PARTICIPATION

Traditionally, parks may have been thought of as only a place to stay overnight, but times are changing and so are our parks. Provincial Parks are attempting to make your stay in the park, be it an hour or two or longer, as active and interesting as you wish.

All parks which provide camping and therefore have continuous staff, have a loan out program for all park users. Recreational items which are available include such things as games, croquet sets, baseballs and gloves, etc. Frisbee golf courses have been established at many of these parks.

For those with an interest in natural things, many of our parks provide excellent opportunities to look for plants, watch animals and study geological features.

A Naturalist is located at Cabot Park and Brudenell River Park to help you with these endeavours as well as provide slide talks and camp fires. For those who have always wondered how a bee actually produces honey, demonstration hives have been set up at Brudenell, Strathgartney and Cabot Parks.

Additionally, if you are interested in a shallow water snorkelling excursion with the Naturalist, these occur every Wednesday afternoon at Panmure Island Provincial Park. Equipment is supplied. A day long canoe trip, at a minimal charge gives the nature lover a chance to see much marine life, practice his canoeing skills and enjoy a meal which includes several wild items.
