Alpha Rebekah Officers Installed

On Tuesday evening. July 5th, at the regular session of Alpha Rebekah Lodge No. 10, I. O. O.F., the officers were graciously in- stalled in their respective chairs by Sister Ethel J. Sutherland, Dis- trict Deputy, president and staff, with Sister Hilda Harper, P.N.G., as Deputy Marshall. During the installation two solos were beauti- fully rendered by Sister Juno Foster.

Reverend H. E. D. Aahtord, M. B.E-, BA. ED» comes this week to take up his dutiu es minister of Trinity United Church, Char- lottetown. Mr. Ashford was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, re- ceiving his early education at Mount Allison and going on to Queens University and. Union College. As a student he took an active part in athletics. was pre- sident of the student body and was one of the originators,‘ of the Student Christian Movement. He won the Chown Gold medal in history.

After graduation Mr. Ashford went to British Columbia. where he held two pastorates. There too he was very active in athletics 11nd Ofsanlzing athletics for young P80916- He played and refereed hockey all over southern British Columbia.

Mr. Ashford then went to In- dia as a missionary. Between terms in India he was minister of St. Paul's United Church. Brandon, one of the largest churchu in Manitoba. After a varied Queer in India, he returned to Canada in 1939 and went into the R.C.A.F‘. He served as chaplain in Canada, Erlsland, Africa and the continent. going to France shortly after "D" Day. He was knovm as the "Flying Padre." being the only chaplain to ily on active operations against the enemy. He was also the only Can- adian Air Force chaplain to be decorated before the and of hos- Wltlei. and he served on more “fr-onts" than any other chaplain.

Since his discharge from the R. CA1“. he and Mrs. Ashford have made their home in Calgary, as he has been Field Secretary for Western Canada for the Mission- ary and Maintenance Department oi’ the United Church of Canada. Mrs. Ashford was the former Miss Evelyn Jackson of Vancouver. ‘They have three sons: Ray and Ian are student missionaries 0t the Unit- ed Church of Canada in Saskatche- wan. and Glenn is coming this week with his parents for sum- mer holidays before entering Queen's University.

For the wedding trip the bride chose a suit of pale pink gabar- dine and White ribbon beret. Her accessories were white and she wore a corsage of gardenias. A pink Scotian topcoat completed her en- semble. Dr. Auld and his bride will make their home in Kensington. P. E. I. Out-of-town guests includ- ed the.groom's father and mother. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Bissett, Miss Daphne Blssett, Mr. David Bislett, Montreal.

The bride is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Per!!!’ Strong, Boulderwood. North West Arm, Halifax. and has been secre- tory to Dr. Holland of the Students Health Centre. Dalhousie Univer- sity. She is a graduate of Edge- hill Church School. Dr. Auld is a graduate of Dalhousie University and has been an interne at the Victoria General Hospital and will practice in Prince Edward Island.

A large crowd attended the opening dance at Winsloe Station Hall on Friday evening and en- joyed it_very much.

On Thursday evening, June 23rd. friends and relatives gathered at_ the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred, Turner to tender a miscellaneous shower for their daughter Vernal who was married recently.
