Dr. W. J. P. ltlacMillan in the afternoon session told the Legisla- ture that the guarantee of financial assistance to the small Provinces, made at the time of confederation and provided for in the British North America Act, had been “in- vuded, violated and taken away by war agreements.”

He criticized Premier Jones‘ 1+ fusal to explain further his state- ment. made during the Throne slleech debate, of the possibility of future free trade between Can- ada and the United States. He said it appeared as if Mr. Jones was "kite-flying aha trying to get into the limelight." It was too late for the Premier to say he did not want to divulge any confidenlal information of the Fsdeyal Gov- ernment. because the Premier should have "kept his mouth shut in the first place." he added.

Dr. blachlillan said the repeal of the “anli-labor" sections of the Trade Union Act came too late to Drevent a "rifvbelzween farmer and laborer, between country and town." His party had protested against the passing of the “obnoxi- nus" legislation which had "ln- vaded civil rights. insulted labor and given the Province and the Jones Government a bad name."

He said the Government's policy of declaring "paper and fictitious Bllmiuses" gave a false picture of the Provinces financial position to the rest of Canada. The Pre- mier's "lblllly to wave a magic wand in Houdini-like fashion" and ohlnze o $285,000 deficit into a $30,000 surplus would “hamper ef- forts to get further Federal grants."

Referring to the inequality of voting. he said the Liberals had 24 members with only 50.2 per cent 0f the vote and the Progressive Conservatives only six members with 45.5 per cent. The\City of Charlottetown had only two mem- bers although it had almost as many voters as King's County which had l0 members.

With an additional two-cent drop exam today, Prince Edwacl Island butler has joined the gen- eral doyvnward price-trend across Canada.

In some places reductions, as much as ten cents, have been re- ported. with prices continuing downward.

Some Island opinion believes that this lrend- which has drop- ped the price of Island butter four cents within a week, may continue until the retail price falls to fill cents per, pound for first-grade butter, wlhich is the level at which tho Government price support program ccvnes into effect.

Other opinion in Charlottetown expresses the hope that a few cents drop will satisfy the uncer- tain situation.

Some of the reasons given for the prices of Island butter re- maining firmer than elsewhelrtain- eludes the argument thatalthough production increased 34'". inst month over Frbrualy 194B. the current supply is not. stlilirlrnt for the Island's domestic tiecds.

Consequently, butter in storage. which is less than last. year. is augmenting the domestic supply. Tf a surplus of Island butter had to be exported. the price would fail faster and to lower levels.

It is expected. however. that when more butter is offered. Is- land prices will drop accordingly.

Retail price of first. grade but- ter in Toronto was 03 and 64 cents prr 1b.: in Montreal, with o. drop of 51,1. cents in the past week. at. 63 cents wholesale: retail in Oi.- tawa from 64 to B7 cents.

One reason for the continuing downward nrice trend was the fact that the situation is so uncertain. Dealers don't know what the price will be more than a day ahead. Thus they are buying only enough to get through eaoh buslness day. HAMILTON, Ont., March 14 tCPi -A "treasure hunt" in a home-made raft. on Hamilton Bay brought death to two boys early today and police held out little hope for the safety of their two companions. '

The bodies of two of the boys were pulled from the icy wat- er late today and crews of life- guards and police still were dragging tonight for the other two bodies.

They recovered the. bodies nf Murray Smith, _11, and Harry Pesonick. 14. Bernard Lezon and John Barclay, both 14, are still missing.

With n tattered felt pennant ‘on their makeshift raft, a supw ply of rlotlzllnuts and n wooden sword. the boys went off in the rail last night. They had spent Sunday afternoon making it from abandoned aircraft gaso- line tanks and a few pieces of plank. -

The wreckage of the raft was found along the beach early today.

Information was being sought from the City of Saint John, N.B,.. which is using two of the most popular types of meters, as to the one most suitable for Charlotte- town.

After the second reading of the by-law to legalize the public sale of skim milk on the streets of Charlottetown, a correction was made in t-he amount of butter-fat mentioned in the original amend- ment frorn 3.5% to "three-tenths of one per cent" butterfst.

The Mayor stated that a com- mittee of milk producers would meet the Council in tho near fut- ure.
