Osborne, of Portland, was engaged in placing a rafter in position, he missed his footing and fell through the interior of the building to the ground. The unfortunate man encountered several ob- jects during his fall, the top he crashed the loose boards of a staging tarned over several times in the descent and reached the ground,after a fall cf thirty-seven faet. Strange to say, no injuries, not even to the extent of a bruise, are visible on his body. (From our ovwn Correspondent. ) The Lewis-Potosky Dramatiques per formed in Ludlow Hall, here, on Thurs- day, Friday, and Saturday nights of last week,to fair audiences. They visited Alber- ton on Monday and Tuesday. On Friday evening they will again perform Unele Tom's Cabin in Summerside. A mass meeting of the inhabitants of the town took place im Ludlow Hall on Monday evening last, for the purpose of considering the best method of putting the Canada Temperance Act in proper working order. Rey. J. H. Collins oceupied the chair. Short and pointed speeches were delivered by the Rey. Neil McKay, Hon. W. G. Streng, Rev. T. 8. Richey, R. R. McC. Stavert, Esq. and Rev. Mr. Wilson, of Kingston. At this meeting a Prince County Temperance Alliance was formed, with some forty-five members. A resolu- tion, requesting the members of the Town Council to exercisé their authority in see- ing that the Act was put into effect, was also carried. At the close of this meeting, the members of the Alliance met and ap- pointed a Committee to draw up By-Laws, and a Vigilance Committee. The duty of this Committee will be to see that the law is enforced and to bring before the proper officer any infraction of the law.

The members of ‘ Prince Edward” Lodge, I. O. O. F.,are making prepara- tions to receive and eitettain the brethren attending the session of the Grand Lodge, which meets here on the 11th inst.

The Canada Temperance Act came into force in this County on Tuesday, the 3rd August last. The friends of Temperance are jubilant over the fact, and well they might.

The Fairbairn family will give an enter- tainment in Ludlow Hall on the i8th inst.

Tuesday, the 10th inst., will be observed as a holiday by the Banks in this town,

Dr, Tanner will, to-morrow at noon, complete his self-imposed task of fasting forty days. A New York despatch yives the following particulars of how he spent the thirty-sixth day :—-From 2 to 3 o'clock Dr. Tanner spent his time dozing on his cot. He was very excitable and refused to talk with any of his visitors. At 5.30 he drank some ice water, and said he felt con- siderably refreshed. At4p.m. the faster {was sleeping, but a few minutes later he was awakened by the loud talking of some of his visitors. He appeared to be much an- noyed, and refused several persons to talk. He remained dozing on his cot until 4.55 p. m., when he took his regular evening drive in Central Park, being as usual ac- companied by a physician and_ reporter. He appeard very cheerful, and drank two oz. of water, which he vomited again. During the drive he talked very little, and when he returned at 7 o'clock, he appeared very much exhausted, and rested several minutes in the hall way before he attempt- ed to walk up stairs to his quarters. When he reached his cot, he immediately lay down, and was seon asleep. The doctor, during the evening, was visited by Gen. E. Parker, of Generali Grant’s staff, but refus- ed to enter into conversation with him. He also refused to be weighed, although requested to do so by several attending doctors At 9.30 p. m. the doctor was lying in bed apparently asleep, and the doctors in attendance said that his condi- tion was very favorable for his completing the 40 days’ fast.
