Baha’ Studies Prerequisite for Peace

What are his potentialities? What is required of him? And let each one ask himself, what can I do myself?

Over a century ago, Baha’u’llah stated that “the well-being of man- kind, its peace and security are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.” The call of Baha’u’llah for the unity of mankind also has its counterpart at the individual level.. On the per- sonal level, we are likewise chal- lenged with the task of attaining a state of unity, not only the inner unity necessary of creating a full and integrated life for ourselves, but also a interpersonal unity, a unity between ourselves and the members of our family, society, country, and the world. this is a call for a condition of unity which will ultimately encompass the whole earth.

To achieve this high level of indi- vidual and collective unity,w re- quire a new mind-self, new ap- proaches to the use of power and love in our relationships, a new perspective on freedom, justice, and equality, a new understanding of the roles of religion and science in

human affairs, and a new approach to the issues of the equality of men and women, among others. the accomplishment of world peace, as Baha’u'llah attests, is possible only if we are willing to humble our- selves and approach this task with

a spirit of humanity and receptiv-—

ity. Baha’u’'llah said:

“O contending peoples and kin- dreds of the earth! Set your faces towards unity, and let the radience of its lights shine upon you. Gather ye together, and for the sake of God resolve to root out whatever is the source of contention amongst you. Then will the effulgence of the world’s Luminary envelop the whole earth, and its inhabitants become the citizens of one city, the occupants of one and the same throne.”

When we speak about unity, it does not imply that all people should behave in a specific way, or dress the same or have the same culture. Rather, itis the coming together of all different cultures and peoples of the world, because each culture has its own beauty and vitality which it can contibute to the whole. And when all peoples of the earth come to the realization of world unity, this globe will be another world.
