MONTREAL. April ll — (GP)- The Montreal Gazette said todey that "black market operators are currently peddling beef in Mon- treal at three to five cents a pound over ceiling prices.”

The newspaper said an official of a large meat packinghouse told of this situation and added that beef black marketing had been "particularly bad in the last l0 days." Also, unless the flow of ca- tle from Western Canada in creased, the situation would be considerably worse in the next two or three weeks.

The official was quoted as sly- ing that Western meat. producers apparently were holding back cat- tle to fatten them up, but it was this lack of supplies that caused black marketing.
