“Tam no relative of old Jacob Towns- hend—am not, nor ‘have I ever been, in any way connected with him in business, { have known him only as a Street Pedlar VW Maps and Cheap Publications, until wbout two years since, when he was hired by some unprincipled men to lend the fraudulent use of his name to confuse and distract the public mind, thet they wight pirate the property which [ pos- sessed in the Jiepuldtion of Townsend's Sarsaparilia, which had cost me thou- sands and tens of thousands of dollars.

“Tn a suit which [ brought against this Jacob Townsend and ‘Thompson, Skilman & o., the tirm by which he was employed, the so styled old Doctor recently made affidavit that he had no interest whatever inthe Sarsaparilla to which his namevis affixed, and asks the court to let him off on that ground.

“ Parthermore, { am the sole auther

of the medicine known as‘ Dr Townsend’s Sarsaporiiia.” {have never offered old Jacob Townsend a penny for his recine, bat was engaged in manufacturing the Compound Extract of Sarsaparrilla for nearly eight years before he or ary one else, taking advantage of the great popn- arity of this medicine, undertook to ‘eounterieit either the article or the name.”
