Gem Cover Up Contest fails to hide talent and good times

At 9:15 the first entrants showed up — two Policy stu- dents wanting to paint the call letters from their ficti- tious radio station on the Vet College Fence. .

At'3230 the last to enter

arrived — a father‘ whose children wanted to paint Garfield and Odie.

In between, twenty murals were painted on the nine-foot high white construction fence surrounding the Atlantic Veterinary College site.

And why?

Because Saturday was the day of the first ever Netted Gem Cover Up contest, and

degree temperatures and bright sunshine highlighting the red, blue, and yellow latex paints in cans, in ice cream containers, on paint- brushes, and on both fence and clothing.

Whe the day was over,

Office‘ at UPEI, and Vicky Allen—Cooke of the Con- federation Centre of the Arts' Art Program conferred to choose a winner.

The fifty dollar prize went to Patty and Christine Orlowski and family of Cove~ head, who spent seven hours perfecting a regular 200 of vivid animals (complete with hoof, paw, and web prints leading to it along the univer sity parkway) incorporating the legend:

“All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wild and wonderful,

The good Lord made them all."
