Worp was received yesterday from Point da Chene that a temporary track had been laid to replace that recently destroyed by the storm, and that freight going over the Inter- colonial for ?. E. Island will now be shipped from here as usual.

THE proprietor of the London Figaro has been sentenced to three months’ imprison- ment and a tine of £100 for publishing articles by Mrs. Weldon on the lunacy laws, in which she stated that her husband and Lieut. Gen. Sir Henry DeBathe had conspired to confine her for interested motives.

Nova Scortan Trotrers 1n Evropr.—Mr. J.C. Mahon, of Truro, N.8., who recently took severa! Nova Scotian trotters to Eng- land, has returned. He states that he sold them all at goed prices to an agent of the French Government, who commissioned him to buy six trotting mares.

Quick Worx.—The brig Deodarus was loaded with extraordinary despatch at this port. She commenced loading oats en Monday afternoon, and completed her cargo of: 23,000 bushels at noon to-day, without night work. The Captain expresses himself, pleased with the facilities for loading grain at this port.

Tue Ririe.—No. 3 Company. Captain Longworth’s Company will parade in full uni- form to-night, at 74 o’clock, in the Drill Shed for drill and general inspection. The corps will be exercised in company and battalion drill, and the firing and bayonet exercise. The band of the S2nd battallion will be in attend- ance.

Country Trape.—During the past four days of this week the business men of County Line Station bought and paid for in cash twenty-nine thousand pounds of pork, six- teen Thundred Ibs choice dairy butter, six hundred pounds poultry, and a large quantity of oats. It is now the general opinion that farmers having produce for this fal!’s shipment should rally it to market, as the season 1s fast drawing to a close.

Happeny stopped on the last mile, and both men claimed fouls, but the referee said he had seew no fouling, and thought the best thing he could do was to let tho race be run

over again.

* A Hoax.—The K. C. ‘‘Advertiser” says :— Last week some evil disposed wretch for- warded to this office a bogus death notice of Mr. Simon McLaren, of Rollo Bay. It was accompanied by a plausible note, asking us to give it insertion. We regret having done so, as Mr. McLaren is still alive and well. There is a good prospect of having the miserable scoundrel who perpetrated this act brought before the public, and until such time as he is ferretted out, we can only express our deep regret at the cruelty practised upon a harm- less and industrious old gentleman, for whom we have the highest respect.
