Help for the Boers.

CLeverann, O., Dec. 14.—The Plain Dealer says: “A party of 25 young Trish-Americans has left this city to join the Boers in their fight against Great Britain. At New York these men, who are mostly veterans of the Sdanish-Ameri- can war, will join about 500 other Irish men, and the entire party will sail from New York on Saturday for Paris. In the letter city tha men will join an Irish regiment being formed to go the assistance ofthe Boers. The fecruits from this country come largely from Cuicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland and other cities. Five hundred more

Irish-Americaas will follow to Paris in a |

couple of weeks. Plans have already been made for {the entire regiment of 1,000 to reach the scene of the fighting.

Liverpoot, Dec 14.—Two thousand troops, including the Yorkshires and Laccashires, embarked on the transport Majestic yesterday, bound for South Africa. The lord Mayor, many other prominent citizens and a great crowd of people witnessed their departure. The men were enthusiastically cheered.§

In twenty- five years the population increased from 12,000 to 200,000, the land under cultivation frora 10,000 acres to 2,000,000 acres, and the uumber of schools from 16 to 382.”
