Men’s fashions go rustic and elegant; color, fabric provide exciting news
Men‘s fashions for fall go rus- tie and elegant at one and the same time.
Canadian fashions shown by
the Men‘s Clothing Manufactur-t
ers Association of Ontario at its annual Style Show at the King Edward - Sheraton Hotel re flected smart new trends in col- or. fabric and cut.
Thirty - eight garments de- signed by Toronto - Hamilton area manufacturers were shown by six models in the course of the two ~ hour show, and rang- ed from top coats to sports, business and formal wear.
Most exciting news was in color and fabric —— stardust and iridescent looks on the one hand and tweeds and homespuns on the other.
‘STARDUST’
In suits such color combina- tions as rown with gold and blue iridescent highlights were shown. In sportSWear, the colors of patterned sports jackets were underscored by iridescent shad- es in trouser fabrics — for ex- ample, an olive green jacket with London blue overcheck and trousers of iridescent green and blue.
Stardust fabrics — for exam- ple, black sprinkled with silver
highlights — were used in sev- eral garments.
If the Canadian male follows fashion, he’ll go tweedy. Not only tweed sport coats but en- tire tweed suits were shown — but with a major difference. The long, lean look of natural shoul- der, fitting close to the body with shorter jacket and trim, often cuffless trousers, is cut from rugged tweeds and home- spuns. The natural shoulder- style, once considered revolu- tionary, but now maturing in cut so it‘s adaptable to men of most ages and girths. was predomin- ent throughout the show.
Same goes for the two < buttton or Kennedy look in suits. which; is taking precedence over three-i button styles. ,
It‘s color, color everywhere.‘ Not only iridescent and stardust fabrics but new shades and combinations of colors in bright- er tones make this one of the most colorful years for men's fashions.

Red was predicted as a portant color for men. Its influ- ence began with skiwear but it turned up in the MCMAO show in red and black club check trousers worn with a red sport jacket very simply styled in na- tural shoulder.
EXTRA COMFORT
Another by-product of the ski trails was a suit of stretch fab- ric, with a weft stretch of one to one and a half inches per yard. The fabric tailors and hangs like any other but it provides extra comfort with stretch, w h en needed, at elbows and knees and across the shoulders. Manufac- turers are watching reaction to, the stretch fabric with interest, for it could develop into one o the biggest revo‘utions in the men’s wear ' . For the very young at heart was an avanie garde suit with Ben Casey influence. The crew- necked jacket with five but- tons, revealed only about three- quarters of an inch of shirt and tie at the neckline. The suit has an all-round belt at the waist, no outer pockets. no vents, and very short trouser legs to show off high Spanish boots. Vests continue to be impor-
