All that is required to be done for a triﬂing cut. is to wash away the blood and dirt with a sponge and cold water, bring the edges of the wound as close together as possible. and then put on a piece of adhesive plaister (strapping). If the wound be large. aspace should be left between each slip of plaisters. The plaisters should remain for several days, to give time for the wound to unite; when the pain is great, or inﬂamation be present,- it will be necessary to take a little opening medicine- The bleeding may usually be stopped by pressure; but the application of a cobweb scarcely ever fails.—-Ib.

PRESERVATION OF HEALTH.

One of the best modes of preserving health, and invigorating the constitution against the evils of the approaching winter, is the daily use of the cold bath. In many habits, however, the plunging bath is hurtful, by the absence of that reaction which causes the glow on the skin of those who are beneﬁted by bathing. In these cases the shower bath is often useful ; but, when reaction follow its use. the indivi- dual should sponge the trunk of the body with cold salt water, or vinegar and water, before rising in the morning, whilst the limbs are kept warm in bed.

Compliance with this demand was enforced by the threat of being turned on shore in case of refusal. The vessel has now arrived at her real port of destination. Wallace.

“ This statement the people made on board. to one of our Magistrates. in presence of the Captain, who assented to its truth. adding that he himself, that un- til within a few hours of sailing. thought that the vessel was bound to Halifax. and that the tickets had not been given to him. The emigrants are in a starving condition. and many of them pennyless ;—among 0- thers, one car widow. with seven children, having a son in Hali ax. who wrote for her. paid l5l. passage- money—every shilling she could scrape together ; and though she was promised a comfortable berth. had to sleep on a box during a passage of 56 days, and desti- ned to be cast adrift one hundred miles from the place at which she was to he landed, without a shilling to buy a loaf for her children. Election ravings, ﬁsh.woman brawls among secretaries of state, and such incidents, are disgraceful enough. but this running match, this ﬂight by 50.000 at atime, because fellow creatures were afﬂicted and needed assistance, casts all else into the shade. Under any circum- tances may we be saved from such an exhibition. Many of the clergy are said to have ﬂed from New York, and some papers assert that they should be ungowned. Why the shepherds have only ran after their ﬂocks: and, no doubt, asuﬂicient number to wait on those that remain. have, like them, been prevented from their poverty, and we trust, some of them by amuch more worthy inducement. Each fugitive priest should be called ever after. the Renegade, instead of the Reverend, Mr. So and So; and thus perpetuate the memory of their ﬂight from God and their fellow ci- tizens.
