LONDON (OP) — The five re- maining membebs of the Suez Group ended 13 months in the political wilderness Monday night when Edward Heath, the govern- ment’s chief whip, announced their formal readmission to the parliamentary ranks of the Con- servative party.
The five MP5 had sat as inde- pendent Conservatives since they broke with the government in May, 1957, In. protest against its handling of the Suez crisis. The original group of dissenters num- bered eight but two have re— signed from the House and a third rejoined the party last win- ter.
The Suez rebels strongly fa- vored Britain’smilitary interven- tion in Octoger, 1956, and con- demned the withdrawal of Brit- ain’s forces from the area as a sign of her declining prestige in the Middle East. .
