Ididnot state that the debt of this province was $604,245.47 on Decem- ber Jlst, 1898, I gave the indebtednesse of the province on December 31st, 1898, a8 it appears in the public accounts, I then calculated jhe business that has transpired since December 31st, 1898, and although we Cannot get the exact figures enough 18 knOwa when we take into account the un~ finisheu contracts debentures issued, loans, &c., to warrant us in assuming that the present indebtedness or liabilities of the province must be over $600,000.

I hardly considered it worth while, at first, to notice the Patriot’s slurs; but var tbat journal appears anxious for a quarre! I feel 1am in duty bound to correct the misrepresentations it is making sgainst me. As far as keeping of books is con- cerned we have so far been able to pay one hundred centsto the dollar. I would not relish taking lessons in this line from the editor or manager of the Patriot news~- paper, ifone may judge from the manuer and style that that journal takes in hand ~ ling the public questions and in my opinion attempting to blindfold and delude the intelligent electors of Prince Edward Island. HOW THE MONEY IS GOING!

Siz,—About eight weeks ago there was spent on the Murray Harbor South Bridge $50.00 covering it with fence battens. Last week some $40.00 to $50.00 was again ex- pended (without tender) putting snother covering on it. Culverts and small jobs are being let all over the district, without tender,to party heelers and doubtful voters. Roads and bridges have been let go in a disgraceful manner until there is prospects ofan election. A repetition of 1893 is going on, and the people’s money is being squandered for party purposes.

It is time for the honest electors to take intoconsiderationtbe system of corrup- tion that is going on.

Last but not least, a huge fake is being practiced on the electors of Murray Hare bor namely : “tenders called for rebuili- iog the Murray Harbor South bridge to prepare it for a steel span ,” after speod ing one bundred to ove hundred and fitty doliars on the old bridge during the past season. “Penny wise and pound foolish,” and the whole thing @ huge attempt at de- ception which the electors are just realz- ing. Deception is plain. But it won't work tothe advastage of the Farq:thare eon government this time,
