Queen Visits Cutty Sark

LONDON lCPl - The Queen drove six miles through the streets of London Tuesday to in- spect I sailing ship that will lever put to sea again.

She motored from Buckiulhaln Palace to Greenwich to go aboard the famous China tea clipper. Cutty Sark. now in P9l'm3nGBl drydock as . maritime museum and a memorial to the men of the merchant navy.

The Queen's scheduled depar- ture from the palace was delayed by more than 10 minutes while she chatted with Prime Minister Die fenbaker. Palace officials had ex- pected the Canadian leader's aud- ience of the Queen would last for about 15 minutes. instead. he was at the palace for 40 minutes.

The Ctilty Sark's figurehead was carved from a block of laminated Canadian white pine. a gift of the Canadian government.

During her visit she met painter Leslie Wilcox. who designed the new ftgurehead when the ship was restored earlier this year and whose works are among those hanging in the royal yacht Brit-

annia. Wilcox Zias been commissioned by Brig. P. Bogert of the

Canadian Army to paint the siege of Cape Breton by New England forces in l7-15. The painting is des- tined for the Canadian Army Staff College at Kingston, Ont.
