Tur barkentine Joseph, owned by Welsh & Owen, cleared for Queenstown for orders with a cargo of 19,100 bushels of oats and 300 pieces deals and deal ends shipped by L. C. Owen.

Quick Passace.—The barque M. J. Foley, owned by M, Foley, of Alberton, arrived at Halifax, from London,on Thursday last making the passage in fifteen days. She reported at Mawkesbury on Saturday and has been order ed to this port.

Harreny Answers Hovurtmman,—Mr. J. Happeny (formerly of this city) who is in Boston, now, writes to a Boston paper of Thursday, in answer to Hourihan’s challenge to run him five miles, providing Happeny gave him 100 yards start. This Happeny ob- jects to, but offers to run him a five mile race forjfrom $250 to $1000 a side.

Fisuery Marrers.—It is rumored at Ot- tawa that the Government of the United States have in contemplation a new move in the Fishery Question, and that several officials of the Fishery Department of the United States are now in P. E. Island collecting information relating to the question, Messrs. H. F. Webb, W. H. Rolfe, J. E. Foster and James Wyman, of the United States Fishery Department, were in this city on the 4th inst. They visited Souris and other fishing stations.

Fiee.--On Saturday night last a small shei on Victoria Park, was set on fire by a number of small boys, It was burning bright- ly when Sergt. John Allen arrived on the scene and extinguished the flame. Had this fire not been timely extinguished it would doubtless have spread through the trees to the residence of the Lieut. Governor. We would recommend the City Surveyor to have such dangerous tinder boxes as this shed removed from the park as it is of no use whatever.

Tur brigantine ‘‘Fleetwood,” struck on the reef at the north-west of Bermuda Island. Vossel and cargo is a total loss. The ‘‘Fleet- wood ’ cleared from this port for Bermuda on the 23rd inst., with a cargo consisting of 942 barrels potatoes, 916 bags oats, 6 bbls. par- snips, 10 do, turnips, 50 bush. turnips, 34 tons coal, 6 cords wood, 6 drums -oatmeal, 10 tubs butter, 73 turkeys, 56 geese, 2 tons hay, 24 sheep, 14 horses, shipped by Thomas Foley, jr.
