A recent article in the Canad- ian Medical Association Journal described tests made by the two Kingston doctors from ivhich they hope to bring relief for the iiia- jority of persons suffering com- mon colds.

The preparation the doctors are working on is called "perles". a concentrated mixture of linnlclc and linolenic acids prepared from refined linseed oil. They reported in the Medical Journal that in- vestigation showed a considerable part. of the population suffered from colds as a result of deficien- cy of the essential fatty acids in the diet. These acids they described as "vitamin

"Perles" is supposed to make up for this deficiency. DI‘. Bo_\'d said tests made on medical students at Queen's University last. winter supplied the basis for the hope that eventually all cold sufferers would be given immunity.

Next winter tests ‘would again be made with medical students to determine dosages. "It. is not known at. present if one dose or 20 doses are necessary to supply immunity."

FAIMOUTT-f, England. July 15- The blow-me-down wlndjammer grain race from Australia to Eng- land is over but owing to the in- formality of the race and its lack of rules and regulations this years winner seems destined to remain in doubt.

Two big wliitewings. Passat and Pommem, made the 14.000 miles from Australia to this weather- beaten port. in 94. dars. But those who wanted to call it a dead heat were shouted down by the latterfls crew who got down to facts and figures and presented the argu- ment they had several hours ad- vantage over their rivals.

MONTREAL. July l5-The Can- adian Fedcration of Mayors and municipalities has accepted the Dominion Government's invitation to take part in the Dominion-Pro- vincial conference on municipal statistics opening at Ottawa July 19. Federation President E. J. Cragg announced tonight.

President Cragg, former Mayor of Halifax. said the Federation had named these four delegates: Mayor Stanley Lewis of Ottawa, Ppderation treadurer; H. Carl Goldenberg, Federation economist; Finance Commissioner G. P. Gor- don of Ottawa and Alderman W. H. Blggar of Mont-real. honorary Fed- eration secretary.

The Federation "welcomes" the conference. C1888 said. "An attempt to standardize municipal acoount- - ing meflliods and the presentation- of municipal statistics la a matter of national importance," he de- clared.
