He con» tends that Canada is entitled to no com- pensation, what the United States give us being worth quite as much as what we give them. The counsel for the Dominion (probably Mr. Thomson) commences his argument to-day (Thursday), and he will of course contend that Canada is entitled toa large smount.

At present there are ten vessels loading here, notable among which «re the brigan- tines Wak ford and Shamrock. The Wake ford is owned by Jobn LeBroeg, Esq., Georgetown, und chartered by A. C. Me- Donald & Bros., to load with oats for the tlome Market. She will carry about twenty thousand bushels. Owen Connolly, Esgq., owns the Shamrock, and is loading her with oats and potatoes for England. She wil) require about 8,000 bushels of the former and 4,000 of the latter. The Wakeford lies by the bridge, a circumstance which causes considerable incouvenience to the public as well as to the shippers. and shows Clearly that the shipping accommodations are not adequate to the requiresnents of the place. —Monlague Cor to Patriot.
REPORTS.
Capt. Downey, of schooner © Alexansde: McKenzie”, reports that on the night of Fri- day last, the mooring post by which he was fastened to Mount Stewart Bridge gave way, and she sauag round. Her stern grounded, und he was obliged to cut away the bow- ‘sprit, jiboom and her forward gear, in order to save the bridge. Hs complains that Jas. McWade, Esq., Wharfinger, compelled him t> pay $15 for damage done to tie bridge, although he believes the damage did not amountto$3. the whole affair cost him upward of °Q-~all because the bridge was not sufficient'y stiong to hold the vessel. The Commissioner of Public Works should, be thinks, have a reasonable nan in charge of the Bridge, should see that the Bridge is putin order, and refund him the money he has been obliged to pay out in the matter.
