tonnage is greater. In 1886 the amount | of the sex-going tonnage at that p ort | was 592,306 tons; this year the total amount is 901,962, showing an increase for this year ot 9557. This season 297 sea-oing steamships, with a tonnage of 561,120 tons and 60 sailing vessels, with a tonnage of 40,842, have arrived.
Weddiog favors are now in fashion, says the New York Mail and Express. They are entirely new this season, but have become popular. The favors pre ferred are either in the shape of a flow- er or of a bell. They are mide of col-| ored paper. The bell is about four iu- ches in length and is hung from a brass or steel wire stand. Within the bell is fastened a small box containing a piece ot wedding cake. The bells are often very handsomely hand-painted. The flowers are of various designs, and in the centre, carefully hidden under the leaves, is placedtbe box which con- tains the piece of wedding cake.
