Jr. BYC And Sh Open Play-Off

The Junior Basilica Youth Club and the B. I. S. Sham- rocks will meet Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader to decide the fourth and final play-off position in the City Softball League. The first game will start at one o'- clock.

Both teams finished in a dead- lock for fourth place during the League schedule with a 4-12 re- cord. They will now play a best of three series to decide the play- off entry. The third game if neces- sary will be played on Monday evening.

The Jr. B.Y.C. have the first home and the Shamrocks the last two.

Donnie "Funnel" MacLean was appointed umpire-in-chief for Sun- day's doubleheader. Frank Bell is the alternate choice Ted Strain will be approached to handle first and second base for all play-off games and will be paid for each game.

The regular League playoffs will commence on Tuesday even- ing with the Abbies meeting Bar- ry's Lions on the Parkdaie Dia- mond. On Wednesday the winner of the Jr.B.Y.C.-B.1.S. game will meet the senior B.Y.C.

The semi-finals will be the best of five affairs and and the finals will be the best four olit of seven.

The League will purchase sacks today to be used for all play-off games. The League will also pur- chase trophies to be donated to the members of the championship team. '

The team winning the champ- ionship will be presented with the lovely Bevan Bros. Trophy won last year by the Sunshine Island Dairy.

Only one semi-final game will be played each evening in order to give fans a chance to see all the games. Weather permitting there will be play-off games each evening until Old Home Week. The finals will be played after Old Home Week.

Tennis instruction classes and two ladies tennis tournaments are scheduled to get underway at the Charlottetown Tennis Club on Monday.

Children of all ages are invit- ed out for the instruction class- es which will be held from 9 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer.

Children need not be members to take the instructions but if they wish to play during hours other than those specified it will be nec- cessary to b a member.

These classes have been held in other years with considerable

TORONTO (CP)-Albert (Bert) D0llRlas Fluker, long-time execu- tive on the Canadian Canoe Asso- ciation and the man largely re- sponsible for the North American championship regatta. was buried Friday. He died Tuesday at 07. Fluker was with the CCA for 28 years and was named commodore in 1948. After his retirement he worked towards the North Amer- ican regatta, first held in 1953. and instigated the forming of a Maritime branch of the CCA.
